A blog is an incredibly powerful marketing tool, and there are endless benefits of blogging for small businesses.
While you might argue that you don’t have anything to blog about, we’ll argue right back that you just don’t know what the right blogging strategy is for your business. But we’ll cover that topic in another post.
For now, we want you to understand what a blog can actually do for your website—from converting more leads to drawing more traffic—because we think it’s that important.
The MAIN benefits of blogging for small businesses
They generate more traffic to your website
Whether people come to them from your Instagram posts, Google, or Pinterest, blog posts generate a lot more traffic to your website than your services page does. And when your content is evergreen—meaning it doesn’t become dated by current events or in-the-moment topics—they bring in a lot of traffic over time.
This means that while you might only get 30, 50, or 100 views in the first couple days after a post is published, that number could jump to double or triple by the time six months pass. When you look at it that way, the hour or so you spend on a blog post seems more worth it, doesn’t it?
They help you achieve higher SEO standing
SEO is what makes your website appear on search engines. You need it if you hope to bring in organic traffic straight from Google.
A blog helps you accomplish a lot of things Google and other search engines consider important: lots of internal and external links, newly added content on a regular basis, keywords and key phrases that relate to your services, and so much more. By publishing blog posts with these things, you get your website ranking closer to the top of the list—which means your website (and your posts) will show up first when people search for the things you write about.
They establish you as an expert in your field
When you consistently post quality, helpful content related to your industry, you start to gain a reputation as an expert in that subject. More and more people will start considering you as a source of information. As a result, they’ll sign up for your email list, recommend you to their friends who need your help, and share your posts on their social media accounts.
It all comes back to benefit your business as social proof, industry buzz, and new leads you can later pitch your services to.
They help you sell to your clients in a different way
While you’re likely already marketing yourself to your followers on social media and paid advertising, your blog lets you take a different approach in making a sale. Writing posts that both discreetly and directly educate your ideal client on why they need your products or services is a great way to start. Then, instead of pitching to cold or lukewarm leads, you have the opportunity to pitch to people who’ve ransacked your website for information and now consider you an authority on the subject.
They allow you to connect with your ideal client
Blog posts are just another way to show your potential clients that you understand their needs. When you create content that speaks directly to them and helps them with the problems they’re facing, they feel like you’re the only one who can do for them whatever it is that you do. The level of trust you establish is unbreakable.
While there are definitely other benefits of blogging for small businesses, we think these are the top five. We also think you should definitely start a blog for your business, because who wouldn’t want to reel in all those perks?
